Public Records Request

Alameda County now accepts public records requests through the NextRequest portal. Please submit your request using the following link: Alameda County Public Records PortalNextRequest – Modern FOIA & Public Records Request Software.

Using the portal helps us track and respond to requests more efficiently.

The Clerk-Recorder’s office does not index recorded documents based on Assessor’s Parcel Numbers (APN) or property address. If our records include any recordable documents related to the above-mentioned APN numbers, it will need to be searched using our grantor/grantee name index. You may search our database for documents based on the names of parties identified in the documents, instrument numbers, dates of recording, and/or document types. Our online indexed database may be accessed at http://rechart1.acgov.org/.

Alameda County does not keep all public records in one place — each County Department maintains their own records. Requests to inspect and copy public records, which are not otherwise immediately available to the public, should be made directly to the responsible department, agency head, commission, committee secretary or to an identified designee.

Examples of requests for other County departments:

  • Arrest records, 911 transcripts = Alameda County Sheriff’s Department
  • Building zoning and planning = Community Development Agency
  • Restaurant, apartment, hotel inspection reports = Alameda County Department of Public Health
  • Building code enforcement, road designs, traffic signal plans, environmental UST studies = Public Works Agency
  • Civil, criminal & divorce records = Alameda County Superior Court
  • Property tax payment records and overpayments = Alameda County Treasurer & Tax Collector

The following records do not fall within the parameters of the California Public Records Act and may be purchased through normal course of business.
